Mr Mitch Releases New Album Via Planet Mu

0

London-based electronic artist, Mr Mitch, has released Devout, his second album via Planet Mu.

Mr Mitch has always stood out from the crowd, from releasing his “peace edits” in 2013 in response to the “war dubs” of the UK grime music scene at the time, to breaking current electronica stereotypes by including themes of family life, loyalty and his own experiences of becoming a father.

The album is emotive, yet pop-ready, and manages to be versatile enough to be used as gym music or played on an underground dancefloor. Mr Mitch decided to feature many different artists on his album; such as Palmistry on the track “VPN”, which tells of someone trying to communicate with an estranged lover, and Denai Moore on the cynical track “Fate.” This creates an album of musical tapestries, presented with passion and tenderness.

Mr Mitch perfectly blends vocals, instrumental sounds and synth beats to create tracks that offer you a cathartic experience when you listen to it, giving you a calm feeling that you will keep coming back for. You can get a copy of Devout here.

Listen to Microfibre from upcoming Leon Inc LP

0

The long anticipated album from Leon Inc., Insert Disc, is set to be released on 28 April via Leon Records.

Envisioned as a 3D musical artwork by Leon Inc himself, the first single from the album, ‘Microfibre’ was described by XLR8 as having “stunning hooks in a kaleidoscopic array of synths and groove-led beats,” and has certainly been a stunning precursor to what is yet to come.

‘Microfibre’, is described by Leon Inc as “the track that I am most proud of.” It makes use of instrumental piano sounds, synth beats, and whistle tones,  which start slow and build up as the track progresses. ‘Microfibre’ is therefore the perfect choice for a lead single, as it stands out from the rest of the album, while still staying faithful to Insert Disc’s melodic sound.

‘Microfibre’ can be streamed and downloaded from Soundcloud, but you will definitely want the full album, so be sure to visit Leon Inc’s website to buy Insert Disc and enjoy the masterpiece he has created.

Superpoze Remixes Christian Löffler’s Haul ft. Mohna.

0

In a follow up to his last album, Mare, Christian Löffler has released Mare Remixes Pt 1, which consists of remixes by fellow artists of songs from the previous album. One such remix is by French artist Superpoze of Löffler’s track “Haul” which features indie singer-songwriter Mohna. This track was released on 14 April 2017 via Ki Records, alongside the Max Cooper remix of “Vind”.

However, unlike Cooper, Superpoze chose to keep Mohna’s vocals in the remix. To accompany this, he has included soft piano triplets throughout the progression of the track. The piano , along with the underlying original track and Mohna’s gentle tone, create a sound that stands out from the crowd as far as electronic artists go; especially a well-known festival DJ such as Superpoze. He focuses on the melody of the original, and the track presents a different, more personal take on EDM.

The repetitive lyrics, which speak of a distance that has been walked and praises the one who has made the haul (even going so far as to refer to their movements as dancing), will stay with you after hearing the track. It is faithful to Löffler’s joy-through-sadness musical style, while bring something new to the table by softening the original in the remix.

Parra For Cuva Releases New EP Mood In C

0

The new release by Parra For Cuva, Mood in C is out now via Project Mooncircle. German-born Nicolas Demuth aka Parra For Cuva has already racked up over 35 million plays on YouTube and 20 million plays on Soundcloud with a string of albums, EPs, singles and remixes. Nicholas’s early influences were those of piano and jazz. He studied Audio Design in Berlin and released his debut EP Fading Nights in 2013, followed by 2014’s Majouré and 2016’s Darwîs. Childhood friend Anna Naklab features as guest singer on many of his tracks, including the wildly successful cover of Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Games (feat singer Anna Naklab)’ which reached #1 in the UK Dance and #6 in the UK Singles charts. Mood in C is a collection of songs created in the last year. All percussion was either recorded on journeys and travels or at home with everyday objects to give the EP a unique sound. The title song “Mood in C” was composed after the Ethiopian pentatonic scale that is deeply intertwined with both the spirituality of the people but also the war-torn and deeply trenched history of the country. Furthermore it combines guitar effects with synths and all sounds were recorded analog with the help of effects units. Influenced by electronic acts such as Bonobo, Tycho and Four Tet, Parra For Cuva’s approach towards composition draws heavily on the use of live (often exotic) instrumentation, as illustrated by his experimental use of percussion on Mood in C. Thick layering of effects and a broad range of production influences is apparent, seemingly all encapsulated in a mellow, percussively textured wash, at once unobtrusive and cultured. Mood in C’ Tracklisting:01 Mood in A 02 Mood in C 03 Unfinished Colours Feat Others 04 We Do 05 Tell Me 06 Unfinished Colours (Instrumental) Listen to Parra For Cuva’s “Mood in C” out now via Project Mooncircle:

Night Czar Role Suggested For Manchester, Warehouse Project Supports

0

The Night Time Industries Association has stated their support for the creation of a ‘Night Czar’ position, which would champion nighttime culture.

Parklife and Warehouse Project Founder Sacha Lord-Marchionne has called on Manchester to produce an individual with knowledge of the city to uphold club culture, similar to the same role currently in place in Amsterdam and Berlin.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “I think we are certainly up there [with cities like London and Berlin] but we are far from a 24-hour city. It is so disjointed. When I stand outside the Warehouse Project I see the taxis that are picking people up and I’m wondering why they have to get a taxi back to Bury when there’s a tram line that’s closed. I don’t see why it can’t be running until 3 AM or 4 AM at the weekends. Even if you put private policing on there, the amount of people who would use it would more than cover the cost.”

Lord-Marchionne himself is eligible for the role, saying, “It’s got to be somebody who understands the city, and who is possibly an operator themselves. I would have a conversation with the newly elected mayor and see whether we understood each other.”

In November of 2016, London mayor Sadiq Khan appointed Amy Lamé for the position. Mirik Milan in Amsterdam and the Berlin Club Commission are similar adherents to the system.

Floating Points To Release Environmental Recording Project

0

Floating Points is back with incredible new short film and soundtrack project “Reflections”. The release, due out on June 30th, is a short film with a soundtrack featuring a host of new compositions, all recorded in the Mojave Desert.

To create the work, Floating Points aka Sam Shepherd teamed up with director Anna Diaz Ortuño to explore and capture the outdoors with a mobile studio rig. “Whilst we were out playing and exploring the area around us – the sound reflecting from the rocks, the sound of the wind between them, complete stillness at night and packs of roaming coyotes in the distance, it became apparent that we could use this as its own unique recording environment,” Shepherd says.

“Reflections – Mojave Desert” is the first of a five-part series of environmental recordings from multiple locations around the world that will be released. Take a look at the trailer for the 27-minute piece below.

REVIEW: Fred und Luna, Im Klanggarten

0

Frank Wiedemann, co-founder of Innervisions and the visionary producer involved with leading electronic acts Âme, Howling and Schwarzmann, has started a new record label, Bigamo, to release quality undiscovered music that “wouldn’t fit on the Innervisions label”. The label’s debut offering is Im Klanggarten by Fred und Luna, the moniker of Karlsruhe-based musician, video artist, author and DJ Rainer Buchmüller.

Wiedemann describes Buchmüller – whose debut EP, Glück Auf (Optimo, 2016), went down very well with critics – as a “long-term hero, but for just as long unknown to the public.”

This all stands to change with the release of Im Klanggarten, an intriguing collection of downtempo ambient tracks that blend ‘vintage’ Kraut sounds of the 1970s and 80s with atmospheric swells, curious rhythmic variations and bold compositional gestures.

Whether laying 80s-style synth stabs over a dark and tribal backbeat (“Die Tropfenkarawane”), using cascading, delayed melodies to create lush dreamscapes (“Die Frau Kommt”), or exploring the textures of more dancefloor-ready rhythms (“Du Gefällst Mir”), the album is an expertly-judged example of what Wiedemann calls electronic “listening music”.

With compelling repetitive rhythms through, and an incredible range of both old and new sounds to beguile the ear, Im Klanggarten is a fantastic debut from Fred und Luna and an exceptionally promising start to life for Bigamo Records.

Im Klanggarten is out as a double vinyl through Biagmo Records on Wednesday March 8th. Have a listen to the album’s first track – the slow-burning “Minisong” – below.

Classic Herbert To Be Re-Released Through Mint Condition

0
Mint Condition will be re-releasing Matthew Herbert’s seminal EP Classic Herbert, remastered from the original sources especially for the new label.

The EP was originally released in 1996 and was widely considered to be ahead of its time, featuring tracks that still have a fresh, relevant sound today. The rolling, emotive electronic sound of Classic Herbert is still celebrated for its energy, and has been difficult to track down in recent years.

As a label, Mint Condition focuses on releasing rare material and previously-overlooked gems from the outer margins of the classic house and techno scenes. Unreleased mixes and scarcities from the last 20 years of contemporary dance music are at the center of their interest, but they have also excavated a plethora of additional ‘must-have’ material along the way.

Classic Herbert will be out on March 17th, while Mint Condition will also be releasing Robert Owens’ I’ll Be Your Friend on 24th February, and Paul Hester’s The Voyage on 10th March.

Matthew Herbert, Classic Herbert Tracklist:
Side A:  Got To Be Movin’
Side B: 1. Fat King Fire
2. Housewife

Prangman Brings Out New EP, Chamber, On Migration Recordings

0
The new EP Chamber by bass and garage producer Prangman is out now via Migration Records, a sub-label of NexGen Music.
Dan Meldrum, aka Prangman, has received airplay from Rinse FM’s Marcus Nasty and has shared stages with the likes of Flava D, El-B, Wen, Khan & Nee, Mooney, Teebee, Wookie and DJ EZ and Jackmaster.
He performed at the 2013 Horizon Festival in Bulgaria and has held a residency at the Sous Sol event series, one of Leicester’s most established parties, as well as recently participating at Outlook Festival in Croatia alongside Digital Mystikz, Loefa, Mooney, and Killjoy.
His formative years were spent in Newcastle upon Tyne, where as a youngster he assisted as a DJ at his father’s pub. By age 13 he had started producing his own material. He later studied Music Technology at Leicester’s DMU, where he met various artists and producers. In 2005 he helped organize the weekly party “Hubstep” which ran until 2011. It was at this time that both the Prangman alias and the monthly “Sous-Sol Projet” event series were born and continue running today. His first major studio collaboration was with Lyndsey Murray on ‘Far Away’ in in 2011.
“Far Away,” the opening track of the EP, which features vocals by Lyndsey Murray and has been described as a sparse, rhythmic vocal breaks track, with overtones of acid jazz and soul. Murray’s husky vocal phrasing is offset by an understated keyboard progression that allows “Far Away” to breathe with the excitement of a new discovery.

Prangman explains the inspiration behind the new album: “I use brands, objects or places to influence my decision on track titles, this can help me direct the sound of the track or the choose samples required. I like to fuse genres together to make a whole new unique sound. I guess it all stems from the drum and bass days. I’ve always been a massive drum and bass head and love the neurofunk sub-genre”.
Chamber EP Track List:
1. Far Away (feat. Lyndsey Murray)
2. Sonics
3. Chamber
