About Me. I am an admin.
Hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma in the United States Electro and Bass artist Burner has been fascinated with music from a very young age. Having started his early musical journey as a frontman in a metal band before falling in love with Hip Hop and Electronic music. Burner chats to us about his influences, his sound and gives us a snippet of what can be expected from him in the upcoming months. Burner’s sound can be described best as an effortless merge between Electro, Bass and Trap. His influences include a long list of musical greats such as British Electronic and Dubstep producer Rusko as well as Rock legends Blink 182 and new age Trap-Soul artist Bryson Tiller. The Electro and Bass producer started making music from his laptop after learning that Internationally renowned artist Skrillex used only his laptop to create his unique Dubstep sounds, that opened up a whole new world of creativity for the artist. Burner is heavily inspired by other Electronic artists and that pushes him to be in studio constantly working on new material to present to the world.
Featured on the BassGROUND YouTube channel is the track ‘Everybody’ that was released on the 16th of March 2018. A catchy hard-hitting tune with an aggressive kick and edginess that transport you into a dark-zone with flashing lights and hands waving in the air.

Chatting to us about his influences and his musical journey, here is what Burner had to say:

To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?
I like to make everything. I don’t really follow genres or guidelines for that matter but, If I had to call myself something then at the moment it would be mostly trap influenced tunes as of right now.

What are the 5 albums and artists that have influenced you the most?
Going all the way back to when I was a very young kid and what got me into music in the first place, I would have to say Will Smith. I remember I had one of those microphones that picked up on the radio and I would pop in a blank cassette tape and record myself singing along to Big Willy Style. My family still had the tape up into my teenage years but it’s lost with time now. I’m a lover of all music and every artist I hear or see influences my music in some way but if I had to name a few key players that influence me in significant ways it would be A Day to Remember and Job For A Cowboy in my early teen years as I was a huge metal head back then and that’s even what pushed my friends and I to start recording and playing in local bands. I was a screamer/frontman. After a few years of that I started to get into the Hip Hop and electronic scene. I’m a huge fan of Rusko’s early tunes and the whole early dubstep movement. When I started hearing the music Skrillex was making just on his laptop I knew that I had to figure it out. So, that’s what I did. After that I gave up on music for a while because I just didn’t seem to understand why my music didn’t sound “Commercial” but, it felt really good to make. After a year or so of completely ignoring the music side of me I started to hear these newer artists in the electronic scene and that started a whirlwind of creativity. ATLiens would be a big one there.

What other artists do you really like at the moment and why?
Right now I’m really loving the Artists innovating in the electronic scene. I’m jamming out to a lot of Artists. Josh Pan, ATLiens, OHMY, INF1N1TE, NGHTMRE, Tynan, Holly, Kai Wachi, Holly. I could go on for days there. Outside of Electronic music, I’m listening to a lot of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Gorillaz, Blink 182, Logic, Bryson Tiller, Every Time I Die, Protest The Hero. The list goes on and on.

What are some of the key pieces of gear you use to write your tracks in the studio? Or do you prefer to use software and plug ins?
I had a bunch of gear like synths, drum machines, and more but, It really stunted my creativity trying to get all the cool gear and what not. Now I just stick with a few things that I know and love. Thats basically stock ableton plug-ins with a few others. I love serum because it’s so user friendly. A lot of the Fab Filter stuff is amazing and my secret sauce is the classic WOW Filter. I love that thing and I put it on nearly everything.

Has your arsenal of equipment changed much since you first started?
Oh yeah! Like I said before I was going through all kinds of gear to try an make myself better a producing but, nothing beat the stock Ableton setup once I figured it all out. Now I just stick to what I know. Keep things simple. It’s much better that way.

Do you enjoy playing to an audience or working in the studio?
Working in the studio is definitely what I love the most compared to anything else in this world.

If we gave you the budget to put a line-up together for a mini fest, who would you book and where would you play?
Definitely going back to the artists I mentioned before. Artists currently innovating in the electronic scene. I would have a hard time picking a select few so a festival would have to be it. I’d be booking Josh Pan, Ekali, ATLiens, HEKLER, Herobust, oh man, I could go on all day name dropping.

If you weren’t a musician what would you be?
That’s a very good question.

Do you have any information regarding upcoming releases, projects, DJ mixes or collaborations in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

Right now i’m just doing what I love and enjoying every moment. I’m working on music constantly and actually right before this I closed out of an Unknown Mortal Orchestra edit I’ve been working at. Constantly making music and look forward to putting a lot more stuff out there. Collaborations, at the moment no not really. I’m really enjoying working alone and creating my own vibe.
