Tired of the commercial side of the EDM-community, three guys wanted to bring back the realness of making phat music, with influences from all the genres in this world. BROHUG was born.
With their unique sound, complex productions and the mystique BROHUG brings something new. Huge support from the biggest in the business such as DJ Snake, Diplo, Tchami, Oliver Helden, Kaskade, to name a few, their name has gone sky high in a short time.
We hooked up with BROHUG and chatted to them about their music and inspiration.
Hi there, how are you and what are you up to today?
We are still buzzing from last weekend’s shows! Also we are playing a lot of video games.
To those not familiar with you, how would you describe your sound?
Dirty, phat, funky. Just cool house music.
What are the 5 albums that have influenced you the most?
Most of our influences comes from old school hiphop, but can’t really name just 5 albums. There was a time in hiphop when most albums from the bigger acts around the time sounded amazing!
Which other artists are you into at the moment and why?
We love artists who just keep doing their own thing without necessarily aiming towards radio. Tchami is a good example of that.
Are there any key pieces of equipment that you are using to define your sound?
Oh that’s easy. Three laptops.
What would you say some of the challenges artists face today in the music industry?
The competition. Everyone wants to be seen and heard everywhere. We just need to keep making phat and original music to stand out.
Where do you gather songwriting inspiration?
By just making beats I guess. Playing around with samples and weird sounds gets us going.
Take us through your songwriting process. Are there any particular steps you take when putting your music together?
Not really. We either finish the breakdowns or the drop really fast, then it can take ages to finish the other part.
What’s the best gig you have ever done and why?
We haven’t been touring for that long so everything is amazing at this point!
And the worst?
No show has been bad. Yet!
If you weren’t a musician what would you be?
Professional gamers. Or kings.
Do you have any particular gigs or festivals that you dream about playing?
EDC and Tomorrowland are goals.
If you could perform alongside any other band or artist, living or dead, who would it be?
Drake
Do you have any information regarding upcoming releases, projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?
We have so many releases coming out soon so just watch out! We also have a really tight touring schedule right now so keep your ears out!!
